nx-shell

nx-shell is a desktop environment, not a dotfiles repository. It sits on top of Hyprland as a shell layer and takes responsibility for everything a compositor deliberately leaves out: the bar, the launcher, notifications, the lock screen, the settings surface.

It is part of a wider nx-* ecosystem. nx-settings unifies shell and system configuration in one place. nx-cosmetics themes Plymouth, GRUB, GTK, Qt, icons and cursors together, so a theme change lands everywhere at once instead of in six config files.

The long-term goal is nx-framework: a shared foundation so the shell and every application on top of it read as one system — including GTK and Qt applications themed to match, which is the part most Linux desktops never finish.

The work started as my bachelor's thesis, Development of a Hyprland-based developer-focused desktop environment, supervised by Dr. Gintarė Kaminskienė.
